Upcycling is the process by which materials that would otherwise be discarded are transformed into something new and valuable.
At Rêve + Roots, we choose upcycled ingredients whenever possible as a commitment to a more circular approach to formulation.
Olives are pressed to create extra virgin oil, however, the process yields an inedible byproduct. When refined, this nutrient rich byproduct becomes a beautiful, biodegradable emollient, with clinically proven skin-benefits. Upcycling is a way to capture the full potential of the ingredient rather than discarding it.
Upcycled Ingredients, Elevated Skin Care
Many exceptional cosmetic ingredients originate from the food industry: fruits and vegetables that do not meet aesthetic standards, or byproducts from processes such as olive oil production. Rather than these materials going to waste, upcycling refines and purifies them into effective, skin-loving ingredients.
An upcycled ingredient earns its place the same way every ingredient does: by contributing to efficacy, story, or texture. The reduced waste is the secondary benefit.
